Research shows that late night calls on a mobile phone affects the non-REM(Rapid Eye Movement) sleep.
The impact of a late night call may last upto 50 minutes of your sleep.
Alexander Borbély, Peter Achermann and their colleagues attempted to simulate real-life exposure as part of this research. These Swiss researchers at the University of Zurich said that "This study demonstrates that a short exposure to [electromagnetic fields] emitted by mobile phones has an effect on brain physiology"
Because of the radiation from the cellphone, the brain showed an increased activity during this deep non-REM sleep.
The long-term efffects of such impact on the sleep patterns of people is yet to be established. But if you like a good night's sleep, you should avoid making or receiving late night calls on your mobile.
